Watch full films, not just the showreel

It tells you a videographer can capture a great shot, but not that they can tell the story of a whole day. Always ask to watch 1 or 2 complete recent films, ideally from a wedding like yours.

Watching a full film tells you what really matters: does the edit hold your attention, is the pacing right, do the quiet moments breathe, and does it feel like a story rather than a string of pretty clips? That is what your own film will actually be like.

Listen to the audio

Audio is the single most overlooked part of wedding video, and the hardest to fix. Watch a sample film with the sound up. Are the vows clear and crisp, or muffled and distant? Can you hear the speeches without straining? Clean audio means the videographer uses proper lapel microphones on the celebrant and the couple, and records the speeches off the venue's system or their own mics.

Check the contract and the deposit

Before you pay anything, get the agreement in writing. It should cover the exact hours of coverage, the number of shooters, the deliverables and their length, the expected delivery timeframe, the music licensing, the deposit and payment schedule, and the cancellation and postponement terms. Vague or missing terms are the most common cause of wedding-supplier disputes.

Confirm the deposit too, usually around 20 to 30 percent to secure your date, and check the cancellation policy carefully. Reputable Adelaide videographers are happy to put everything in writing. If one is reluctant, treat that as a red flag.

Compare like for like, then go with your gut

When you compare quotes, make sure you are comparing the same thing: a $2,000 highlights package and a $4,500 full-day package are not really comparable. Line up the hours, the number of shooters, the films you get and the delivery time before you judge on price.

Once the shortlist is genuinely like for like, trust your instinct on style and rapport. You will spend your whole wedding day near this person, and their taste shapes how your day is remembered. The best fit is rarely just the cheapest.
